Show THE FARMERS ALLIANCE General Weaver Delivers an Address at Their rational Encampment MOUNT GEETITA Pa Aug 23The largest crowds since the opening of the national encampment of the Farmers Alliance assembled today In the main auditorium William Bennington advocated advo-cated the free coinage of silver in the Pennsylvania Dutch language He was followed by J 11 Thompson late lecturer lec-turer of the Pennsylvania Farmers Alliance Al-liance When General Weaver of Iowa arose to deliver an address this afternoon there were probably 20000 people on the grounds He said lethe situation of today to-day was not caused by the election of a Democratic administration that administration ad-ministration is still enforcing Republican laws and interpreting the laws the same as did Harrison Such a curse could not be brought upon the country coun-try by 1 mere change of administration adminis-tration nor is it a result of the Sherman law The laws had been violated A Republican secretary of the treasury and aDemocratic secretary of the treasury did not comply with the law They paid > out gold and the secretary of the treas ury aided foreign conspirators when he had it in his hands to prevent this panic This is the real cause of these hard times U At the close of the late war people were comparatively free from debt There was more prosperity then among the farmers north in spite of the loss of those near and dear to them than there had ever been since The reason of this prosperity and good feeling was because there was an immense volume of paper currency in circulation The financial system which contracted the currency is responsible for the loss of thousands of homes innumerable suicides sui-cides and corruption of the morals of the people As a result of that crime perpetrated perpe-trated on our people from 1866 to 1873 British capital has come in and got control con-trol of factories railroads and finances The scarcity of money is what is the matter mat-ter When the farmers come into power and they are going into power they will give more money The farmers will make a dollar that will stay at home They dont want that will money wi go abroad That is what is the matter with gold I |
