Show PAVEMENt CONDEMNED What Was tho Inspector Doing While I Was BeIng Laid After allowing 126 feet of asphalt to be laid on Main street without inspection Inspector Kamsden appeared on the street at noon yesterday and discovered that In some places in the 126 feet the asphalt was not of the thickness required by the specifications by from a sixteenth to an i eighth of an inch and at noon he ordered that portions of the pavement represent lag a big days work to be torn up The paving people were sort of paralyzed for a time but found that through some miscalculation mis-calculation the asphalt was not of the required re-quired thickness as stated and at once set to work ripping it up completing tho job last night When the Main street merchants saw what was going on and saw that it meant further delay in completing the work there was a roar of indignation and Inspector In-spector Ramsden came in for a much larder condemnation than the asphalt received at his hands It is apparent that i he had properly attended to his business busi-ness the defect would have been noticed before 126 feet of paving had been laid and probably it would not have occurred at all The condemnation entails quite a loss in labor materials and time on the contractors but they will simply maks extra exertions to save any delay |
