Show I CITY COUNCIL Matters of Iniprovfraent Considered e Liquor Question JTlunsed The city dads in solemn council assembled assem-bled to mete out justice and injustice on Wednesday evening Mayor Gregor presided pre-sided with Aldermen Berry McDonough Kimball and Lockhart present and E Kimball and Cuptt absent The reports of the various city officers were received and after reading filed A petition for a sidewalk from Third street to tramway to which were affixed the signatures of D Dennis and eleven others was referred to committee on streets alies and bridges Another on ne was for a sidewalk from the Mat sac to tho borders of Chinatown signed by Henry fchiclds and twtntjfour others Referred i An important purl of the session was iho reading of n letter from the Alliance Min ing company relative to the extension or renewal of contract for water for tho city the original contract having expired Del ccmberSG 1891 Numerous bills of a sunday nature were presented and after apouiion warrants were ordered drawn for the several am ounis The report of the chairman of the committee com-mittee on fire and water was then read in i relation to the matter laying now water mains and putting in a reserve reservoir incase i in-case of necessity The chairman reported that the estimated cost would be at least 0000 The report was placed on the records On motion of Alderman McDonough the matter of engaging a team and wacon for the scavenger business was referred to tho committee on streets alleys and bridges who asked further time sn in which to consider con-sider the matter The bonds that the city sexton submitted were found and acted favorably upon In the matter of the water question the recorder was instructed to reply to the Al liance company that the council was ready to listen to any new propositions that it would make The committee on streets alleys and bridges was instructed to get a proposition in regard to the matter of paving Main street and to report at the next meeting of the council There was some little talk in regard to the matter of compelling the heavy ore teams to use some street other than Main but the question died an ignominious i death The liquor question was to have been tho allimportant business of the meeting It was said however that the next meeting would see that a search warrant was out to find it where it was dropped this meeting Adjourned NOTES Mrs Joseph A Young saw the corner i > I i stone of the temple laid and was an interested inter-ested spectator at the capstone ceremonies The Utah Central trains pulling in this city from Zion were loaded with passengers pas-sengers Mrs H B Schweitzer was in Salt Lako at that time and returned yesterday W W Mackintosh and wife may have also been observed Mr and Mrs W F Snyder were there alsoMr Mr and Mrs W V Rico were noticed |
