TO O011ES was a most pleasant one and was made in the remarkable time of fortyJive and one half minutes from the moment the train hal miIutes pulled out of this city until it stopped in the Ogden yards The Idaho delegation consisting of R Z Johnson and wife J M Burke and wife J H Hawley J M Bennett G V Bryan John G Brown and John Con ron were as happy as clams AT OGDEN several of the prominent Democrats who fad accompanied the delegation that lar upon the journey left tho train to return to this city There was a general disappointment disappoint-ment when Ogden was reached to learn that the special bearing tho California nnd Nevada delegations WES half an hour late Application was made to those in charge of the train to allow tho Utah special to remain over in order that our citizens could meet tho ladien and gentlemen gen-tlemen from tho wett nut this was refused and the Utah special went out as section No 1 Tho special met with S warm reception re-ception on its arrival at Ogden a number of Democrats greeting it with cheers and music which were redoubled as the monster mon-ster engine once more panted nnd the precious pre-cious load of human freight was soon lost in tho inscription California Delegation Tariff Reform The Californians too received a royal welcome marred only by tho fact that several of tho alleged Democrats Demo-crats buzzed around in such a manner as to recall the old story of tho mothand tho candle Among these wero P H Lannan Martin Lacnan Judge Hoe and one or two ethers There were loud calls for speeches and General Clark of Carson Nov responded Ho gave no indication how the Nevada delegation would vote save i would be a unit on u silver man as the mining industry of the west was paramount to the existence of tho western states Ho was pleased to see so much evidence of thrift and industry In Utah and hoped she would continue prosperous Loud calls followed for Irish Someone Some-one sung out Hes getting shaved and then George S Patton was in demand That bright and brainy young Californian I spoke for a few minutes and made a most favorable impression They were going hofaid to nominate man who will bo the next president of the United States a man whom we all admire for tho courage i he has always shown because he did what ho believed was righta man whom the events of tho past four years have shown was fit to bo at the head of tho greatest of all nations And there would be no trouble about it either At the close of the Democratic national convention soon to be held in Chicago there would bo none of tho bitterness and strife so lately exhibited in Minneapolis Democrats wouTd not go home with knives in their boots ready to slash anybody who din agreed with them The eyes of the notion no-tion he said are focused upon one man that man is so big as to command attention atten-tion that man is Grover Cleveland wild cheersj J and he will be nominated on tho first ballot Colonel Andrews ono of Californias alternates al-ternates followed and he paid a glow lug tribute to the Cleveland administration which waG the best the United States had had for decades He was a man who was not afraid of tariff reform and that was ono of the great issues now before tho country The California delegation was a unit on Cleveland Cleve-land and if ho wore elected and be no i doubt will be tho country would onjoy a season of prosperity such as had not been felt for four years at least Colonel John P Irish was again called and as the herculean figure of the Califor nian rose above the surging multitude his reception amounted almost to an ovation and it must have astonished tho Democratic Demo-cratic warhorse He was pleased at the appearance of the territory and gratified at the cordial reception given the Democrats from California fornia Utah was 1 great territory and would soon be a great statea state she ought to be None of tho western territories terri-tories should bo kept longer in bondage It was against Democratic doctrine as he understood it When Utah did come in it wonld enfranchise her citizens and place them on the plane with tho people of his own state and she would be admitted regardless re-gardless of the religious convictions of any of her people the only thing that could be required of her was that all men must be equal before the lawmust obey the law Thero would bo no more juggling with the territories i the Democratic party came into power The shameful acts of tho Republican Re-publican party in admitting Idaho as 1 state with half of her citizens disfranchised disfran-chised for certain reasons and allowing Wyoming to come in with that same class of peocie enfranchised could not occur under un-der a Democratic administration Cheers Californias eighteen votes will bo cast for Grover Cleveland he said in conclu concu sion and that is the winning ticket gentlemen gen-tlemen CheersJ A short speech was made by General S PoVton of Ogden and the California special steamed slowly towards the east amidst ringing cheers from the Ogden Democrats which were redoubled as one of the Californians held aloft a bran now broom and cried Well make a clean sweep
