| Show ALL NATURE SMILED Christmas morning broke bright and clear over Ogden All nature seemed to smile and peace good will and harmony har-mony reigned From early morn tll sundown joy and gladness were supreme su-preme and sunshine and light shone tin t in every household Where despair end poverty had held sway the light S of charity had broken Through the beneficence of many individual citizens citi-zens and the various charitable associations asso-ciations happiness and contentment were brought to the homes of the pov ertystncken and the indisposed Notwithstanding Not-withstanding the cry that hardships hard-ships and deprivations Jiave been the lot of many families in the past year still on this Christmas morn not a household in this fair city was leftS left-S desolute or unprovided for all char ins1 to a greater or smaller extent in the general festivities that prevailed Social gatherings dinner parties and general amusements were the all pre j vailing characteristics of the day On Christmas eve dances were heldj In the various halls in the city Those j who did not attend the dances were busily engaged in preparing for the Santa Claus of the morning j Last night tim general festivities were I resumed again The merry dancers tripped the light fantastic and scarcely scarce-ly could the wayfarer pass along a block without hearing the strains of music and merry laughter proceeding from the highly illuminated residences Lart night those who did not join in the home circle spent a highly enjoyable enjoy-able evening tt the Grand Opera house where the bright and sparkling opera Amorita was presented by the Calhoun Cal-houn Opera company It is years since such a magnificent reception was tendered I ten-dered to a musical organization in this r city The house was thronged to overflowing over-flowing and every number was rapturously rap-turously applauded The company in very respect is a cpmpetent one andS S S and-S the principal characters are ably sus I S Gained by the artists S LOCAl BRIEFS The Christmas services at the Roman Cathlic church yesterday were highly Interesting the musical portion of the fcervice being exceptionally fineS fine-S Five drunks were the sum total recorded re-corded at the city jail yesterday The unfortunate inebriates will have an opportunity op-portunity to plead their cause before S Justice Bagley this morning A new society has been organized in the city the Sisters of the Holy Cross of Ogden Utah The purpose of the new corporation is the maintenance and carrying on of primary and higher schools and the conducting of hospit d als for the sick |
