Show i North Salt Lake T Study Municipal Building Needs By MARK D. MICKELSEN NORTH SALT LAKE -Has North Salt Lake outgrown its municipal building and shop facilities? SOME LOCAL architect will have to answer that question ques-tion in the next couple of weeks. A preliminary architectural study aimed at pinpointing space deficiencies in the municipal muni-cipal building is scheduled to begin sometime this week, according to city manager Collin Col-lin Wood. THE CITY council recently agreed to budget $10,000 for the study which, when completed, com-pleted, will determine nether or not North Salt Lake is ready to expand its fire, police and administrative facilities. The need for expansion, says Mr. Wood, "is pretty well obvious." IN DETAIL, the city manager mana-ger said the proposed study will examine the existing structure's struc-ture's maximum capacity. "Once that determination is made," he continued, "we will come up with a scheme" - a plan to redirect the city's square footage needs. Wood said the possibility exists for future construction of an all new city complex. THE CITY already owns several acres of property adjacent adja-cent to the existing municipal building. While he could not give specific details on the cost of any proposed complex. Wood said he hopes the architectural study will result in a "master plan for the physical phy-sical facilities." Separate city departments have already announced ideas for reorganization-most notably not-ably the police. Wood said the police hav e suggested the possibility pos-sibility of relocating at 350 North and Highway-89. "And that may not be practical." the city manager explained. THE $10,000 contract for a preliminary study is expected to be awarded sometime "soon," Wood added. "I'm disappointed in the aspect of the shop needs because be-cause they are obvious and at a critical stage," Wood said of the city's recent inability to cone with a severe shortage of space at the North Salt Lake shops. "We know those needs are not being met." THE PROPOSED architectural architec-tural study will examine the amount of remaining space in the shops and make a determination determi-nation as to w hat must be done to alleviate square footage problems. "That aspect of it (study) is good." Wood said. |
