That is the advice many parents have given their children. Today it is a lot easier to take. DESPITE GLOOMY economic econo-mic conditions, high unemployment unem-ployment and double-digit inflation, in-flation, more Americans are becoming millionaires than ever before. In fact, the number num-ber of millionaires has more than doubled in less than eight years. And it is rising by approximately appro-ximately 15 percent per year. So your chances of finding such a person are getting better all the time. You don't have to go to Palm Beach, Beverly Hills, or the French Riviera in order to meet the rich. They're everywhere. every-where. Often in places you'd least expect. IN THE 1950s TV series "How To Marry A Millionaire," Mil-lionaire," three young women pooled their money to rent a New York City penthouse so they could "trap" a rich husband hus-band for each of them. Although such costly scheming schem-ing still goes on, it isn't really necessary. In the 1980's, like-minded like-minded women (and men) might improve their luck by renting a farmhouse. The region of the country with the most millionaires is the Midwest. Many of these tycoons ty-coons are farmers. (This is largely due to skyrocketing land values.) So a country girl or boy may be a fortune hunter's hun-ter's best bet. THE TEN states with the largest number of millionaires are: New York, Cal., III., Ohio, Flor., New Jersey, Indiana, Indi-ana, Ida., Minn., and Texas. The state with the largest percentage per-centage of millionaires in its population is Idaho. On the average, one in every 50 people there is rich. Whereas Where-as while New York state has a greater total number, only one in every 500 of its residents is a millionaire. THE WORST states for gold diggers are South Dakota, Utah, New Hampshire, Nev., and Wyo. These have the least number of wealthy people in them. In the past, the rich flaunted their wealth. They purchased 30-room mansions and were chauffered about in Rolls-Royces. Rolls-Royces. Now many try to keep a low profile. Some live in modest apartment houses. Others drive used cars.
