Show IT WILL BE IMMENSE The Saltair Pavilion to Be a Double Decker Bids for Its Construction Runs as High asS as-S Manager Clayton Orders Rollins SlockWork the Peer Nephi W Clayton general manager of the Salt Lake and Los Angeles Railroad company has returned from his eastern tripThe The object of his journey has already been mentioned in these columns After visiting a number of the car works famous fa-mous for their fine equipment Manager Clayton found he could deal more favorably favor-ably with the St Charles Car company of St Charles Mo than with any of the other concerns and he gave an order for ten firstclass excursion coaches fiftysix feet long with cross seats to the full width of the cars that will accomodate 120 passengers These coaches are first class in every particular and cost nearly as much as closed cars the wheels brakes platforms and tops being identically identi-cally the same THE PAVILION BIDS The bids for the immense pavilion had been filed with Secretary I A Clayton and were ready for Manager Claytons inspection in-spection There were ten bids in all and they ranged from i 125000 to 160000 for the construction of the entire pavilion This is exclusive of the cost of the pier and gives a pretty good idea of the immensity im-mensity of the pavilion which the Saltair company is erecting When it is fully completed with electric light plant it will nave cost the projectors not far from 200000 i The pavilion will be as its cost indicates indi-cates one of the largest of its kind in the world There is nothing at Coney Island of the same large proportions and magnitude magni-tude of the great tabernacle which is now worldfamousand will be repeated in the Saltair pavilion WORK ON THE PIER is progressihg and J E Langford who is the contractor on this job yesterday reported that he had driven 300 piles which reach into the lake 1200 feet from the shore line His contract is to drive 500piles that will carry the pier 2000 feet from the shore At this point the water is 31 feet deep Here the immense pavilion will be erected Manager Clayton was seen at his residence resi-dence last night and he stated that the contract called for the completion of the pavilion by Decoration day and the sufficiency suf-ficiency of the bonds of bidders was being looked into so that there might be no failure to comply with this very important impor-tant provision of the contract Pending a decision he did not care to state who the lowest bidder was A DOUBLEDECKER PAVILION The pavilion will be a doubledecker that is there will be two floors The first will be ten feet above the water and will be used as a refreshment hall Over this will be the dancing hall 134 feet wide by 244 feet long and on the outside will be a promenade The resort will start out equiped with every modern convenience and 200 bathhouses bath-houses will be completed by Decoration day The run from the city to Saltair can easily be made in fifteen minutes but the schedule time will botwenty minutes Since the constructing of the road was completed to the beach some months ago the time has been spent in ballasting and otherwise improving the roadbed which Is now in perfect condition |
