Show FOOT BALL GAME A Correction as to the Weights of the Teams To the Editor of The Herald In the report of the football game between the Y M C A and the High School teams which appeared in the Sunday Herald the writer has attempted at-tempted to belittle the High School team and exalt the C A by misquoting misquot-ing the relative weights of the two teams I was evident to any person who saw the teams as they lined up for the game that tire Y M C A was the heavier of the two yet the Christian Chris-tian scribe has juggled the figures and made i appear that the High School team was the heavier We have taken the trouble to ascertain certain the weight of the members of the High school team and find it to be as follows Murphy 199 pounds Smith 155 Lyngherg 17S Andrews 146 OBrien 160 Stebbins 140 McGraw 135 Lang ton 140 Allen 160 Odell 147 Peak 150 Total weight 170S nounds I The total weight of the Y 11 C A team was given as 1751 poynds but I inasmuch gven person whto furnished the figures did not hesitate to overesti mate the weight of the High School team it is reasonable to infer tat ihe would not hesitate to underestimate I the weight of their opponents The writer does not make this statement state-ment by way of apology for the defeat I of the High School team for no apology apol-ogy is necessary The High Schoolboys S School-boys have played football through the season out of pure love for the game and a desire to encourage especially among college boys a healthy athletic spirit Of the five games played they have won three having defeated theY the-Y M C A once and the University of Utah once and being in turn defeated once by each of these teams I has been our aim to play on all occasions a clean gentlemanly game and thereby there-by to demonstrate that football is not necessarily a vicious brutal or dangerous Ycous gerous sport I A MEMBER OF THE lEIGH SCHOOL TEAM I |
