Show 3KJST HAVE CHEAPER BEETS t < ah Sugar Company Directors Have So Decided Although the board of dIrectors has S not officially acted upon tire very important im-portant question the concensus of opinion among the members of the Jtah Sugar company is that the great plant at Lehl should be closed down at the end of the present run for an indefinite in-definite period unless the farmers will accede to o reduction in the price to be paid for beets and the railroads which get Q vast amount of hauling out of the works will make more advantageous advantage-ous rates on the product of the planS and materials and supplies The board was Sn session for two or three hours yesterday afternoon but while the future of the company and the industry indus-try it is building up was freely discussed S dis-cussed no decided action was taken and the board adjourned to Friday alI al-I ternoon Then it is highly probable I r that the price to be paid for beets during S dur-ing the coming season will be fixed andS and-S the other matters which vitally affect the company will receive attention There are many reasons why the farmers and the railroads should do their share in the upbuildlng of this most important industry During the present season the company has pale 55 per ton for all beets received but there ts now talk of cutting the price 5 down to 4 per ton under which with 1 a reduced freight tariff the company could manage to continue operations But even then the stockholders would receive little if any earnings on their stock It is the desire of the directors S of the company to make of the beet sugar industry in this territory a sort of cooperative system which would prove of benefit to all citizens alike The company asks for the support of the consumers and it in turn aims to give support to the farmers working mere and general public Under existing S ing conditions however the works cannot i can-not continue for another year the manufacture of sugar from beets which cost 5 per ton and for this reason the company is asking for a reduction i The farmers will willingly make the iir reduction for even with 4 beets they P can make their lands earn a handsome 1 V revenue Of course there will be a few o TT who will drop outthey would probably l 4 prob-ably have done the same with beets S selling for 5 At the meeting of the board GeneralS l S i I I 5rr 5 S S y Manager Cutler reported that the factory fac-tory had to date turned out this season sea-son 4158000 pounds o dry granulated sugar and the run of the works would come to1 an end onor about the 10th of January Since the recent heavy slump there hasbeen nochange in tie price of sugar but Mr Cutlery yen tured the prediction that there would be an early advance There can be no legitimate reason for the present continued con-tinued low price of sugar Sales are good and on theincrease S |
