Show JOXESSQUItES I A Marriage That Took Sngur House J oilui by Surprise A sudden and unexpected f surprise 1 was sprung upon the good I people of Sugar House yesterday afternoon by the announcement that ou Postmistress Postmis-tress Miss Ruth Jones had abandoned the lonely field of single blessedness for a prolonged cruise upon the sea of matrimony taking with her as master postman Colonel George D Squires exwarden of the Utah penitentiary After seeing that they were both seaworthy sea-worthy and from all appearances properly prop-erly mated for so important a journey Bishop A W Driggs gave them their commission by which they will be recognized re-cognized among other fleets upon the great ocean of life Miss Jones is well known throughout the territory and enjoys a large circle of warm friends She was for a number of years connected with the drama being for a number of years one of the leading members of the old Stock company com-pany of Salt Lake In fact there Is hardly a town or hamlet in all Utah that she has not appeared in and won many warm friends by her genius as an actress Of Colonel Squires we are not so well posted his residence at present pres-ent being at Blngham Salt Lake county where he is engaged in mining He served as acting warden of the Utah penitentiary under the marshalship of I A Benton in which position he showed himself an expert and won a host of friends In and about SugarHouse Sugar-House The affair was a quiet one only a few of her own relatives being present the ceremony being performed at the brides home We join with many others in wishing wish-ing the newly wedded couple bon voyage voy-age On Thursday evening last the young ladies of Sugar House by special invitation in-vitation gave a grand masquerade ball in Hemsleys hall A large lumber o4 characters were represented > and all were well sustained lOur l-Our genial friend and neighbor Mr Joe Barlow now doing service at the the pen as guard past a most enjoyable enjoy-able time last evening with a few of his friends at the family residence in Sugar House the guests being mostly from the city Progressive euchre and other games were indulged in Including Includ-ing refreshments Tour correspondent was not present so I am unable to state who won the first prize in high five but I am reliably informed that T C Wright present turnkey at the pen carried away In becoming modesty the booby prize consisting of a charming charm-ing little wax doll Mr W says he is i not in the game any more as he is too far advanced In years to be encumbered with the care of babies |
