Show The merit of Hoods Sarsaparilla is not accidental but is the result of careful care-ful study and experiment by educated pharmacists 54 The Health Commissioner Salt Lake City Sept 5 To the Editor of The Herald The old saying of Barnum is undoubtedly un-doubtedly true the American people like to be humbugged A good example of this is the desperate fight that Dr Beatty is making to retain the health office He is telling everyone he does not want the office and yet he is moving mov-ing heaven and earth to retain it It is laughable to anyone who knows the way the learned doctor decided whether a given speciment of water contains the germs of disease In all cities of any I size the health officer is a man capable of making a chemical and bacterialogi cal examination of water suspected of being impure With Dr Beatty this knowledge is superfluous He has trained his special senses to such a fine point that no bacilli can escape him and simply by feeling tasting smelling and seeing at present he does not claim to hear a microbe move can at once decide whether the water is impure im-pure or nbt Anyonecan say a water is not fit to drink if they see excrement excre-ment polluting It does not require a medical man to do this but to say a flowing well water contains the bacilli of typhoid etc by looking at the water is to say the least a peculiar statement We are having an epidemic of typhoid fever In the city at present their being many more this year than last yet according to the Tribune the health of the city is so much improved Why dont Dr Beatty stop it It is his duty to do so and he claims to be able to do It These cases are not from drinking flowing well water either as the majority were drinking City creek water The doctor dies hard but after the agony is over he will feel so much relieved Just think of a person being able to see microbes in everything Microbemania must be a very trying disease to have A CITIZEN Notice to Hay Buyers
