| Show James G McDonald Cos candies THE OLD OLTJCKY HEN The Dame in the New Calico Dress and the Lies She Tolls To the Editor of TIE HERALD It is amusing to hear the clucking of the Tribune hen over Utah Sho seems to feel that the only eggs that have been dropped on this soil have emanated from her She would have the world think that in fact there were no hens in Utah until she came She assumes that Utah was so poor that it could not furnish straw for a hens nest until she came and let loose her cackle against the Mormons Poor old hen She says Utah is on the upgrade sure and the immediate future is filled with hope Only a henheaded partisan bigot could confine his statement thus The Tribune knows that Utah has been on the upgrade since 1S47 The Tribune is wel 1 aware that no colony state or territory of our great country can show in its history such a wonderful development as went on in Utah from 1847 An honest broadminded genuine gen-uine American would never hesitate for a moment to say so But the Tribune is not honest broadminded or genuine American Amer-ican I is a Catholic concern with a Protestant Pro-testant bias and a Lberal whim it wants to be considered fair butit never is waus that It knows that tie Mormon people underwent terrible persecutions in the east where the socalled Christian religion is said to h in control that they were robbed murdered and driven from place to places for daring to live up to the Bible and were finally forced to flee to the mountains for safety beyond the boands of the nation The Tribune knows that when this people had begun to live in these wilds they were beset again witti tho same spirit of persecution that had robbed tbem in the east knows that they refused to submit sub-mit longer to such treatment and in spite of the malice of the l lying hordes that envied en-vied them their secured opportunity here they won from the government a recogni tlun of their rights The Tribune knows tun llbltC that since then the protestant church combined com-bined with the Republican party has hesitated hesi-tated at nothing to force the natioa into a war upon this people Yet the Mormons have remained on the ground and never for a moment ceased their efforts to keep the immediate future ot Utah filled witu hope Of their trials struggles hardships the Tribune knows full well Yet it never allows anything to appear in it3 columns that wouid indicate that Utahs peope possessed any merit or the land my vaue until its old hen began to cackle here Well of course it cant I is tho tiling Of a combination priestcraft a mongrel 1 product of Catholicism and Protestantism I both of which are striving with every means at their command batked hy 20000 000 of Jesus eaters and untoid wealth to I break our national constitution and make j their immutcnoal ghost god the ruler of l the United States That is what tho i Ti iliunc stands for what is owned for what is run for what it pl Sits 1 S-its liars to help along Its old hen I does not dare to be honestJruthf ul and just I towards the Mormon Hence it takes up I the purpose of its own priestly combine and 1 casts i upon the Mormon church and then rises its noise atainst this people as being inimical to the government Of course the Tribune knows that the Mormons understand under-stand the trick but the outsiders do not j Hence the dirty fraud of the organ But the Mormons put Utah on the up grade forty years ago and have kept it moving I that way ever since iu spite of the m ichina j tons and cachinations of such old hens as I the Tribune rancho cont 1ns with a Jesuit I at the head who learned the business of i I managing hens west of the Jordan when ho was too poor to buy soup bones Hatred to Mormons has paid many a professed Christian and men have made stud Chrstian a study of maligning this people in such manner as to raise money in the cast for the ostensible purpose of conquering a people who were represented as thieves murderers while in fact they were patiently working to make the land of Utah what it is today The whole antiMormon outfit in this country coun-try knows that the Mormon people have jl made Utah what it is and that to them is due the credit that the Tribune hen ascribes to herself But the coming of the people is carrying truth and light beyond the mountains moun-tains and the future of Utah is full of promise that tho nation wil learn that it has never held a more loyal honest earnest sober virtuous patriotic and industrious people than these same maltreated Mormons Mor-mons The Lann hen says we do not think any honest man in the world fears the Tribune or its lash That is the same complacent semiidiotic cackle Of course it is not feared either by honest or dishonest men Too frequently hare its neckfeathers been 1 ruffled in angry threat of dire results i anyone dared ignore its edicts So it was last winter when the 10000 party won that tbe Tribune hen aid that it anyone of that council dared to show the cloven foot he wet 11 1 get hell from the word go Well in I few weeks the boodle business dominated domi-nated the council and tho Tribune hen setup set-up its neck feathers and threatened The boodlers laughed at it passed a resolution demanding the names of the accursed four but the Tribune nevermore peeped The old h i Was silent he had laid her egg and made her cackle the egg was not fecund it rotted and disappeared So it is always The Tribune is a holy terror to itself but it scares none Just now it is trying to coax and blackguard the Independent Indepen-dent Workingmen back into line under I its yoke but they are not afraid of i I and will not go Just now It is bristling with threats I will retire into obscurity obscur-ity whoever dares walk by another light than its priestly pennydip But even that is all wormy chestnut Not a man has ever said a word in behalf of the Mormons who has not been blackguarded over the land by the dirty organ of priestcraft but not a man has it ever retired by its calumny The Tribunes egotism in assuming to own and run Utah Is an indication of softening of the brain It has been understood for some time that one of the proxy owners of the sheet had becorro a victim of brain mush and begins to look as if the whole concern would have to be burled soon Lathe La-the interest of sanitation Its talk about the common enemy 1 is sillv There is no common enemy in Utah except that prestly political combine of tho socalled Liberal party that is determined that tho nation shall not learn the truth in regard to the Mormon people determined that the nation shall be kept at variance with this people What for I So that Utah can be kept as a national pasture for political hacKs and broken down ministers Pshaw Shoo CHASE fly I |
