German Catholic Societies of Wisconsin MILWAUKEE May 28The first convention of German Catholic societies of Wisconsin opened this morning Up to noon today nearly three thousand members of societies one hundred delegates and about three thousand pYfMirslnn ists had reported at headquarters Nothing but organization was accomplished today It is ux I pcctcd the convention will adopt resolutions in opposition to tIe Bennett compulsory school laW which Is just now shaking political founds tions in the Badger state A parulo of the local societies and visiting delegations is in progress this afternoon There seems to bo an absence of any direct purpose on the part of the conven lion The present constitution of the societies prohibits interference in politics It is sur mised that this barrier will bo removed In order That Catholics may exert themselves against the school law next fall The leaders however scout the Idea that the mooting has any direct bearing on the coming political campaign in Wisconsin
