Show THE KESSLEKBRENNAtf FIGHT Slugging Takes the Place of Science and I Hatered That of Caution Special to THE HERALD Examiner Dispatch 1 I DUnE Mont May 2GThe glove contest for points which took place at the fair grounds yes terday afternoon between George Kesslcr and Mike Brennan wellknown lknown middleweights of 1hls city developed Into one of the warmest fights ever held in the state Both men were in the pink of condition fit to fight for their lives Brennan had a slight advantage in size and reach but this was more than counter balanced by the wonderful endurance and headwork head-work of Kessler who proved himself the much better general Hard feelings had existed between the men for some time and Brennan allowed i to lose hm his head while whio hcniCr remained perfectly cool He made a waiting fight whllo Brennan began to rush from the first and attempted at every atempted ever oppor tunity to get Kesslers head in chancery When once he secured that hold the referee was almost powerless as he held on until actually forced to break away At the end of the seventh round be turned on the referee and knocked him down with a swinging righthander on the car This brutal and uncalled for assault lost him nearly every friend in the 200 people present and OirvTlIrl V nv Inttt him the ftrrhl The first part of the fight fght was tame the monotony of sparring being only relieved by an occasional rush from first one and then the other I soon became evident that Kessler was getting the best of it and as soon as Bren nan began to show signs ef weakening he began to crowd tho pace From that time on the fight degenerated into a rough and tumble in which Kessler was undoubtedly at his best and won steadily In the fourteenth round Bren nan threw his opponent with terrific force fall fal ing upon him Kessler retaliated the next round by throwing his opponent nearly across the ring and following it up with a terrific blow on the head Kesslersecured frt blood in I the fourth round and the first knockdown in the fourteenth Several warnings were given the fighters that theymnst obey the order of the referee and flghkby rules but as Brennan re fused to comply and the fighting fghtng was getting to be exceedingly vicious the eceedigly fIght was stopped Deputy Sheritf ONeillatttio endof the six teenth round Referee OBrien refused to ren dgr a decision but it was the decsimf i opinion of the great majority that Kessler must have won in the next round Thus It was made nobodys lIght and the money had to be divided The gloves used were four ounce Considering the amount of fighting done neither of the men was badly injured and both menwere on the streets last night |
