Show Banker t Johns Silver Bill WASHINGTON May 26The silver bill prepared pre-pared by Banker St Johns of New York was I introduced by Senator Plumb today I directs the secretary of the treasury to purchase monthly silver bullion to the aggregate amount of 4500000 ounces fine silver at the 4500 fne sivor market price i of 81 for 37123100 of silver and preo 312310 grains pure slyer issue I United States notes in payment thereof These i notes are to be legal tender for all purposes unless otherwise specified in any contract The t aggregate amount of such notes outstanding shall not exceed the cost of tho silver reserve on hand in the purchase of which resere notes were issued the notes to be redeemable on de mand at the treasury or subtreasury in coin but the secretary of tho treasury may after the expiration of two years from the passage of this act prescribe regulations forthe redemption of the Xti on the demand of 0th holder an amount of silver bullion worth at the market price on tho date of redemption the face of the amount of the notes thus redeemed in bullion I in the discretion of the secretary such method redemption shall then be to the interest of the United States the secretary shall coin such portion of silver purchased not less however than 7000000 monthly as he may deem neces sary to provide for the redemption of the United States notes after two years The minimum coinage requirement shall be reduced to 31000 nnn per month 10 |
