DIAIOHD ffl COURT He is Arraigned But Defers His Plea I COLORED CROOKS ARE CINCHED The Committee on Police Is Probing The Charges Undo Against Mike Caution Aow a Sergeant After passing a sleepless night in the cit jaii William Diamond who killed Edward Ed-ward Scott his friend with a chisel on Friday morning was arraigned in the police po-lice court yesterday He stated that he wished to obtain an attorney before any steps were taken and the case was continued con-tinued Diamond then sent for Judge Powers saying that he wanted him to defend de-fend him The attorney had an interview with the defendant but did not agree to appear for him except in the preliminary hearing and it is likely that Diamond will have to get some one else to defend him aius WJUID is CIXCHED J In the afternoon Charles and Claudia Ward colored were tried on the charge of receiving stolen property The evidence showed that a few flays ago the police found in the possession of Mrs Ward some silk dresses which were stolen some time ago from tho residence resi-dence of MrbAVire on Second Vest street The female took the responsibility on herself her-self and testified that she bought the goods from a man who wanted to sell them to get something to cat The story had all the ear marks of having been manufactured manufac-tured for the occasion and Mrs Ward was found guilty while her husband was discharged The case of Thomas and Carrie Delaney also colored and implicated in the same transaction was next taken up and it was shown that the female had in her possession when arrested sui overcoat and a ladys wrap which were stolen from Oscar Hardys residence recently Tho evidence satisfied the court that Delaney had stolen the articles and he was found guilty of petit larceny but sentence was deferred The trial of Mrs Delaney was postponed until Monday John Patten pleaded guilty to a complaint com-plaint charging him with vagrancy and sentence was suspended
