| Show PRESIDENT YOILNGS LETTERS lIon John W Young Is Collecting Them for a Book It has been known for some time past that Hon John W Young was endeavoring endeavor-ing to collect all the letters of his father President Brigham Young A representative representa-tive of THE HERALD recently asked him with what suceess he was meeting and what particular aim he had in view He replied re-plied that he was accumulating a large I number and as to his aim he showed the reporter acircular letter which he had just dictated It is as follows and will be perused pe-rused with interest by the public SALT LAKE CITY Dec 1 lSJO To the Brethren and Sisters In giving this general letter to Brother JamesA Little the bearer hereof I do so with the earnest request that all those to whom it may come will carefully peruse its contents and judge sympathetically the intent in-tent of the writer by aiding Brother Little in obtaining the documents and information requested It has long been my wish to compile for sacred purposes every letter and document written and dictated by President Young together with selections from private journals jour-nals and public periodicals the data re regarding his eventful life My plan for utilizing this valuable matter mat-ter when once selected is first to publish very fully all sermons letters and extracts together with the narrative of President Youngs life in a form sufficiently extensive exten-sive to make it a most valuable textbook for all the Latterday Saints 2As a matter of duty I deem it necessary neces-sary to enlist the services of one of the most prominent biographers of the day to write the life of President Young in such a form that it will command the restiect of the reading public and thus be widely circulated throughout the civilized world This conclusion is arrived at from my observations ob-servations during my travels that the 21 reading thinking people consider the Lif of Brigham Young as highly worthy of I their attention The motive I have for accomplishing this j I important work is not because in the prov idence of God I am a son of President t Brigham Young or that loved him dearly as a father but because I revere him as a prophet of the Most High and hold sacred 1 the great work accomplished under his inspiration in-spiration krowinsr it to be worth of thn closest scrutiny of all the honorable pee plo throughout the world Therefore my respect for him as the leader of Gods people peo-ple inspires me to undertake this extensive work and I therefore most earnestly crave the kindly sympathy anU aid of all the Saints who are interested Very respect fully JOHN W YOUNG I |
