On Sunday morning last three wagons End thirty head of mules with five negro I teamsters under the immediate charge of Sergeant Thomas Ahearn of company A Sixteenth infantry arrived at this post This is the longlookcdfor transportation to be used on the campaign Four citizen carpenters who have been at work at Fort Dtichasno for the past seven months accompanied ac-companied the outfit They were seven days on the road and considering the extreme ex-treme heat and dusty roads made rOC d time in covering the distance of 200 miles The other day First Sergeant Robert Kane of company U Sixteenth infantry accompanied by a member 01 his company purchased a wagon load of choice new potatoes pota-toes near Lovendahl station on tan Union Pacific The price paid was 50 cents per bushel Captain Joceyln Twentyfirst infantry as ollicer of the day and Lieutenant War srcn A Cowles Sixteenth infantry as of Hcer of the guard were on duty on Sunday Sun-day the Jd inst Enlisted men who have served tenyears or more continuously or otherwise shall be considered as veteran soldiers and discharges dis-charges granted thereto by the war department depart-ment by way of favor so far as the interests inter-ests of the services will admit or the merits of each case justify the purpose being to extend all possible indulgence to meritorious meritor-ious men especially in cases where a discharge dis-charge would obviously be for the material benefit of the soldier So says late army order received at this post We expect that quite a number of enlisted en-listed men will purchase their discharge as it is well known that many can better themselves in civil life To all those contemplating I con-templating such we extend a word of cheer and most assuredly none have our best Wishes more cheapest vegetables veget-ables The contract will be let lor the balance bal-ance of the present fiscal year It will be remembered that one pound of vegetables is added to every soldiers daily ration by the act of Congress of June 16 1S90 The ration will consist of potatoes and onions We are not apprised as to tho component parts of each but surmise the quantities drawn will be such as company Lieutenant Wright who is attached to G company Captain Hale of H is in Boston awaiting retirement retire-ment whilst Second Lieutenant Murry Kichols of H is on detached service Concerning K company at Fort Du Chesne its captain as mentioned will probably go to II whilst Second Lieutenant Lieu-tenant Ballou of K goes to A and First Lieutenant McFarland of K company com-pany is on detached service A hotly contested tussle for canine supremacy I su-premacy between two army reared purps caused a slight ripple of excitement the other day Keno of B Twentyfirst in Santry came out victor in the first round The command received their pay for July services at 1 oclock this afternoon The entire command infantry and artillery artil-lery will leave the post on the practice march on next Mondsy morning the 11th inst Tho line of march will be along the Rio Grande Western railway towards Pay Eon We KO twelve miles the first day out sixteen miles the second seventeen miles tho third sixteen miles the fourth and twelve miles the fifth day making a tramp of bcvcaty three miles when we go into camp on Goose creek in the neighborhood of Payson All the field officers and regimental regi-mental staff will go One non commissioned I commis-sioned oflicir and five privates from each company in charge of an ialansry officer uill remain It the post to take care of everything patrol tho garrison etc Of course Fritz will go with th command and write up the maucouvi < sand the country through waich we pass Additions to the infantry quarters will be built at once It is designed by the quartermasters department to Have a sufficient suffi-cient amount of barrack room to accommodate I accommo-date tho different companies without cramping them rs to sleeping room The regulations prescribe at least
