| Show COAL IN EMERY COQNTY It Is of Superior Quality to That Fonml Elsewhere In hearing of and witnessing the rapid development of the rcssurces of different parts of the territory it seems strange to those acquainted with Emery county and the resources it contains that they are still lying dormant for lack of capital to dcvelope them One of the groat sources of wealth that will in the near future be put in tho front ranks is the coal that this county abounds in and one of the finest of these beds is owned and worked by the Orangevillo Coal and Coke Mining company com-pany The parties comprising this company com-pany are J K Reid J Robertson D Grif nth A C Vanburen and others The nine is located about seven miles from the said town in a northwesterly direction surrounded by some of the grandest scenery in this mountain region There is timber in abundance to supply the mine for timbering for many years to come in closo proximity also a beautiful stream of spring water runs past the mouth of the mine sufficient for all purposes About one hundred feet above the mine the canon closes up forming an ampitheatre on one side of which the water fulls over a precipiece about one hundred feet forming a beautiful cascade and in tho winter season sea-son the icicles reach to the ground making one of the grandest pictures imaginable and one that an artist hunting for the beautiful in nature to portray would travel any distance to obtain The mine is worked in a distance of 150 feet or more the coal taken out being sold to the resi aents in tOO towns aajucent The vein is about twentylive feet thick of a bituminous bitumin-ous quality and very hard Tests have been made showing that It will make a superior quality of coke The miner who has charge of the mine is man of considerable consid-erable experience having worked in the coal mines ot Wales when a boy also in the mines of most of tile states oi the union I since and in the different coal mines of Utah and be claims this coal to be tho best he ever worked in without any exception We hear of coal famines in different parts of the country when we have fuel in abundance waiting for capital to invest and bring it to the front where it belongs We also hear rumbles in the air of a railroad I being built into these vast beds of coal or II I in the near vicinity It is to be hoped that it will not all end in air but that those I I who have tho capital and tho developing and prosperity of Utah at heart may investigate I I in-vestigate these extensive deposits land bring to the front one of tho best coal and I I coke producing sections of the United States f for this it will eventually be when it is opened up and will give labor to thousands of people Emery county is destined to become one of the richest counties of Utah when Its vast beds of coal its mineral and wax its oil its gypsum and alum and gold and silver mines aro all properly opened and worked Ito I-to Bay nothing of the farming and fruit I growing facilities that this country abounds int and which aro being developed at the present time The towns of Emery are I growing very rapidly for a farming com I I I munity but when the different mines are opened there will be ten residents where there is one now We see that the sugar industry is bound to bo a success in Utah county Here in I Emery county the sugar beet is a native The soil seems to have been made for its especial benefit It grows to enormous I proportions Tho health of the people isnot as good as they would like this fall typhoid malaria being very prevalent C H Oliphant of this place having five cases in his family atone at-one time and they are not entirely free from the disease yet JAOUGHAKE OUANOEVILLE November 2S |
