| Show Orders for the Army CHICAGO Dec 3 General Miles arrived from Washington this morning and it is understood he will at once proceed to the scene of disturbance among the Indians in the northwest He has decided to mount two infantry regiments which have been ordered to Omaha tho First from California I fornia and the Seventh from Denver Horses are being hastily got together for that purpose Orders have been received from Washington Wash-ington for the enlistment of 1200 Indians for attachment to the various regiments in the neighborhood of the Indian troubles two troops to each cavalry regiment and two companies to each infantry regiment Inspector General Heyl of the division of the Missouri returned to headquarters this morning after an absence of nearly two weeks in the northwest From Chicago Chi-cago I went to Pine Ridge said Colonel Heyl When I reached there on the 26th I found the Indians quiet and evidently inclined in-clined to be peaceful No doubt the rapid concentration of troops at Pine Ridge prevented pre-vented an outbreak Many of the reports sent by correspondents are sensational and working great injury to the settlements settle-ments Many settlers have sold stock at a sacrifice and are leaving the country I left Pine Ridge night before last It was I snowing hard and a blizzard was blowing which will no doubt cool the ardor of the young bucks while the older men are pacific in disposition |
