Show 1 ROBBERS ROOST Discovered by Constable Clark in Parleys Canyon t CARLOAD OF PLUNDER FOUND fwo of the Supposed Thieves Arrested The Officers on the Lookout for Others For several months past reports of innumerable innu-merable petty thefts committed in various parts of the city have been reported at police headquarters and notwithstanding tho efforts of tho officers the thieves invariably invar-iably escaped detection Usually when Goods arc stolen in this way they can be found in some secondhand store but tho rule did not apply in this case Clotheslines Clothes-lines were stripped carpenters tools and articles of furniture and wearing apparel disappeared and were seen no more The officers were convinced that the pilfering was done by one gang and they could not understand what became of such an immense im-mense amount of plunder But the mystery mys-tery has now been solved by the discovery of a veritable robbers roost in Parleys caflon and it came about in this way It seems that the thieves did not confine their attention to this city but preyed upon up-on the good people of Sugar House ward and other suburban districts as well One gentleman residing tit Sugar House recently re-cently missed a carpet from his premises and a few days ago while in Parleys caflon on business he passed a point near Dud lers where some parties were living intents in-tents He met one of these nomads who was llshingin the creek and afterwards looked into one of the tents when the first object his eyes rested upon was the identical identi-cal carpet which had been stolen from nis place but a short time before On his return re-turn home he notified Constable Clark of his find and the officer went up to look over the ground A superficial examination examina-tion revealed an immense amount of plunder consisting of every variety af articles among them being a cook stove and a large qantity of lumber the property of the Salt Lake ic Fort Douglas railway which had been boldly stolen from the cars Constable Clark arrested Neils Anderson and his wife Caroline who lived in the tents and notified the officers in this city of his discovery Believing that the place was headquarters for an organized gang of thieves two officers went out to the scene Wednesday and spent the night there but no others appeared They spent their time is getting out the goods and sorting them and already two wagon loads of stolen articles ar-ticles have been brought to this city while half a car load of things arc still outthere The carpenters tools are stamped with the names of A D Davney and J J Wine Anderson and his wife will probably have hearing in the police court today and the officers arc tilT on the lookout for their associates |
