Show ALL VOTE t The registration lists show that the vote to be polled in August at the I 0 general election will be the smallest cast In this Territory for many years i It will necessarily be a light vote if every registered citizen shall exercist 1 his right of suffrage Whether or not I it is surprising to anybody it is a fact c < J i that hundreds of men refrained from pxE t taking the oatL and acquiring the right to vote Another time they may think p better of the matter and become full f I citizens so far as they can in a Territory 1 Terri-tory in which the national government will not permit full citizenship It is I also true that many more members of Jr the Peoples party than of the Liberals i a r 1 I in proportion to numbers declined hi de-clined to take the oath In L 1 L the first days of the registration Y i t the antiMormons held back They did r 1 i I t not like the unsavory medicine which i I they had been instrumental in prescribing rql a 1 g prescrib-ing They thought the dose was to te l Il1xl i J i I administered only to Mormons and i r g i when all were made to swallow it many r i e e Gentiles were nauseated However before j 1 tt I f r I r be-fore the registration closed they had gotten their courage up to the swallowing I i swallow-ing point and some who at first refused t M ii fused to promise to obey the law as to t f J certain matters swore to conduct them J i Iii selves a3 moral virtuous men and thus i secured the privilege of voting The I i 1 result of this general easing of consciences 61 i Ii conscien-ces and this swearing to be pure and g f I t I i good is that the ratio of Liberal to Peoples I I ft Peo-ples voters is much larger than ever before a I i be-fore This was developed most paint pain-t l 111 fully to some at the school elections J r elec-tions last week It is very I li I well known to those familiar t i t with the community who have taken 1 the trouble to examine the registration f lists It will from present indications be made prominently apparent on the I first of next month Jj 1 The truth may be briefly stated The 1 antiMormons are registered up to very j I j nearly their full strength while a considerable I con-siderable percentage of the Mormons I did not register It is this fact which 1 i I i makes some of the legislative districts r and certain counties doubtful If i ° there had been a reasonably full regis i It tration on the part of the People there iii would today bo no apprehension as to II he result of the coming election in I i places now in doubt So many of their t I I political partisans having neglected to I i comply with the conditions imposed upon voters it becomes all the more the I i duty of those who have registered to perform their full duty by going to the polls and voting We urge upon every member of the Peoples party the importance I j im-portance of so arranging his affairs as to be on hand on August 1st prepared to do his share towards retaining those best qualified to administer its affairs in control of the Territory Notwithstanding Notwith-standing the many who refused to tike the oath there are enough who I did register to elect the Peoples nominees 1 nom-inees with very few exceptions provided h pro-vided they will vote It is hoped that tl when the polls shall be closed and the hfl votes counted no Peoples party man will have occasion to censure himself ont on-t > account of his failure to do his duty to 9 I the party in the interest of good and t t honest government |
