Show The President UTICA July lBAt 1030 oclock the Presidents party passed through Rome There were about 150 people at the depot The President was on the rear platform and as the car reached the depot he doffed his hat and bowed graciously gra-ciously twice to the admiring crowd Mrs Cleveland and Secretary Fairchild were standing just within the door and smiled in appreciation of the remarks that were made by ladies who were try ing to get a glance at her face The party passed Oneida at 1043 Large crowds were at the depot the crowd surged around the rear of the car and greeted the President with cheers as he and his wife appeared Then followed five minutes of most enthusiastic handshaking hand-shaking Everyona crowded and pitched to reach the outstretched hand He had a pleasant smile nnd hearty grasp for all in reach while Mrs Cleveland Cleve-land stood in the door and smiled and nodded pleasantly to the ladies The special train with the Presidents party arriyed at Canastok at 11 oclock Two thousand people were awaiting the distinguished partyat the depot Thi and other buildings were decorated with bunting When the train came to a standstill the postmaster Introduced the President to the people and an informal reception took place Five hundred people shook hands with the President anti Mrs Cleveland stood in the doorway door-way of the car and acknowledged the salutations CASENOVIA July lBThe Presidential party reached here at 1136 am No special incident occurred on the ride of twelve miles from Canastok The reception re-ception was hearty A procession formed and escorted the party to the summer home of Secretary Fairchild The town was everywhere gaily decorated deco-rated with the national colors The place never saw such a crowd of people At 3 pm the President and Mrs Cleveland received the trustees of the village and a few friends At 4 pm the general reception began The attendance at-tendance was large The party dined at cue residence of Sidney Fairchild luther of the secretary On the way hither from Canastok Mrs Roscoe Jonkling senta basket flowers to Mrs Cleveland |
