Show DON DICKINSON A rumor was sent out from Washiug ington last week to the effect that Mr Lamar would soon be placed upon the supreme bench and Mr Dun M Dickinson Dick-inson the Michigan boss would be made Secretary of the Interior Mr Dickinson now says he knows nothing of the origin of the story and intimates that he would not accept the position if it were offered him It is to be hopedthat he is more honest ill this than in other things One would naturally think also that Mr Cleveland would not care to risk another fight with the Senate over Dickinson The I Michigan boss had the ear of the President Presi-dent a year or two ago and induced the latter to appoint many of Dickinsons friends and sinkers to Federal offices Mr O W Powers late Associate Justice of Utah was one of them The class of men recommended by Dickinson was so bad that it was with difficulty that any of them con d be confirmed by the Senate some were rejected and the names of others were withdrawn by the President with the view to sparing the feelings of Dickinson aud avoiding the public exposure of the characters of the appointees In the light of past experience Mr Cleveland wouli display more courage than discretion dis-cretion if he were to nominate Don Dickinson to any office much less to the important one of Secretary of the Interior |
