Show I KISSING THE FLAG Enthusiastic Exercises at Macon Ma-con Georgia GOD BLESS JEFF DAVIS Richmonds CelebrationThe Reds Bulgaria and Servia Mexican FinancesGeneral Confederate Day CmcAGoOctober 27A News Macon Ga special says Yesterlay was Confederate Con-federate Day in Macon Everywhere throughout the city Confederate flags were flying everybody wore a dozen badges on his breast indicative of love Jefferson Davis The special feature of the occasion was the review of Confederate Con-federate veterans by their old president The procession was to have marched by Davis in review but when the procession pro-cession was opposite Davis the vete terans broke ranks and swarmed about their chief The police endeavored to keep them back but they shouted < All the policemen of Georgia couldnt prevent pre-vent them shaking hands with Jeff Davis The enthusiasm reached the climax when some one handed the Confederate Con-federate battle flag to Davis who grasped the tatters of the battle flag and pressed them to his lips The air wa full of such expressions as God bless Jeff DavisGod bless the flag and the entire multitude was in tears Mrs Davis and children kissed the flag and with each kiss 6000 huzzas went up When the flag was handed back to the multitude men snatched all the available tatters and pressed them warmly to their lips Pretty soon Davis arose and said Friends and Brothers I am like that old flag tattered tat-tered and torn by storms and years I love it as a remnant of what your fathers and what I hope you would do I will see you again Several badge on behalf of military organizations were presented to Davis and daughter They bore conspicuously on their faces Confederate flags and sentiments During Dur-ing the afternoon at the fair grounds various speeches were made by old Confederate leaders and in the evening there was a grand torchlight demonstration demon-stration and an address by General Jackson exminister to Mexico |
