Show LOGAN LINES MONDAY EVENING soon after dusk the quiet in the neighberhood of Nor rell do Readings butcher shop was somewhat marred by the antics of a balfbreed Indian from Millville named Johnny Garr who was worked upon by the all powerful tanglefoot It appears ap-pears that he was amusing himself around this shop when in came a dog which made a dive at a leg of mutton on the counter Mr Reading yelled lustily Get out you dog Garr thought this complimentary epithet was pronounced upon him and fired cp immediately at the same time grabbing grab-bing a large knife which he brandished wildly in the air After some threatening threat-ening manouvres he pushed Reading out into the street At this opportune time Sheriff Crookston came along and after considerable trouble dispossessed him of the knife and turned him over to Constable Cranny At Garrs request claiming that a party was there whom he must see he was escorted into Edwards Ed-wards saloon where he slipped away and drawing out a huge pocket knife defied the world Mr Cranny summoned sum-moned several bystanders to his assistance as-sistance and then made a daring spring at Garr throwing his man to the floor but not without receiving a wound in the hand Here he was held until others wrepched from him his deadly weapon which he used with the skill of a fullblooded red skin Several of the half dozen men engaged received numerous num-erous scatchea and cuts but nothing serious lie was quickly secured and toted off to tha cooler where he remained re-mained oven night JTuesday newas brought before Justice Stewart and taxed 50 for disturbing the peace and resisting an officer The amount was promptly paid and he was given his liberty ON SATURDAY evening when Sheriff Crookston was marching one of Hy rums inebriates off to our elegant little calaboose a man named Carlson endeavored to rescue his Danish friend from the clutches of the law but was soon laid out and together with his friend placed under lock and key For resisting an officer Carlson is now lending lend-ing his aid toward beautifying the surroundings sur-roundings of the new jail the other man having been set at liberty MILi5 < Load Utah October 25th 1881 |
