| Show S ATISFAC IOBY 1KOG BESS Some pope are gloomy over what they term the collapse of the real estate boom in this city These are the persons per-sons who collapsed with the boom They are the speculators the fellows who came here not with the intention of growing up with the country but of blowing up the country and profiting from the wreck Nobody is worried save those who indulged in options and miscalculated There were a few of them and they hays been squeezed I more or less according as they were i more or less reckless last winter or spring They didnt know when to unload un-load and like all who learn by experience experi-ence are paying somewhat dearly for their experience The seasons experience has demon trated we hope to the satisfaction of everybody the train of THE HERALDS oftrepeated declaration that there can bo no boom in this city as the word is popularly understood There can and will be progress and prosperity but tne hurrah and mad rush which have characterized the growth of some western west-ern cities will never find congenial soil here They cannot thrive in this cliMate cli-Mate which Beams to be lacking in the elements which set people wild in regard re-gard to Wichita Kansas City Los Angeles An-geles and other towns which are now inflicting upon the once mad people the penalty for disregarding wisdom wis-dom and good common sense in their methods There are reasons why the boom cannot be made to go here The community is made up largely of slowgoing nonspeculative safe people = peo-ple they are here less for the purpose of getting rich suddenly than because this ie their home In allUhat t1 o word implies Be they prosperous or otherwise other-wise they arehere to stay and it will take more money than even boomers can offer to tempt them to take leave of their wits and run to speculation The little flurry of some months ago turned the heads of very few The many were as cool considerate and cautious asr ever knowing the value of money and of real estate With this kind of a community all efforts to inaugurate and maintain for any length of time a speculative boom will prove futile But it should not be understood by this that prosperity has deserted the city or will depart from it The progress pro-gress of the season promises to be rem re-m rkable More building is going on than for years before there is a more general employment of labor and it can readily be demonstrated that while prices of real estate have declined materially from the figures asked last spring they are higher than they were a year ago Today values and prices are very nearly equal As long as this shall continue thrre will be no boom but there will be prosperity of the substantial sub-stantial kind Such advance as shall be made will be held for it will be en a solid foundation and in the long run our progress will be much greater than that of the towns which rush into notoriety no-toriety importance and greatness only to fall with a crash TilE HERALD is well pleased with the outlook for Salt Lake We are not sorry that there came a check to the order of things prevailing a few months agoand are pleased in the thought that such an unhealthy state of affairs as that with which the city was threatened cannot come upon the town Nobody who gave his good sense a chance was hurt by the boom and those who would not permit their better judgment to assert itself are entitled to little sympathy The community has not suffered on the contrary a considerable consider-able advance has been recorded in its favor and it is still moving ahead at such a safe pace as to dispel the apprehension appre-hension of disaster |
