Show THE CHAMBER MEETING No Report Yet on the Wheeler Proposition Other Matters Last evening was the time appointed for the Chamber of Commerce to hear the report of the committee appointed to investigate the proposition of Mr E G Wheeler fcr the establishment of a packing house and stock yards in this city but as there was not a quorum of the committee present and only a few members ot the Chamber were on baud it w as decided to postpone making the report to some luture date From what could be picked up on the side however a very good idea of what the report will be is obtained The committee it seems had but little trounle in agreeing and in factafter some investigation of the matter all were found to be of one opinion That opinion as nearly as can be ascertained is that Mr Wheeler has askid for the earth withthe modest stipulation that the fence shall be an iron one with solid stone base etc etc The further opinion is that Salt Lake cannot afford to offer this inducement to outsiders to come in and live off the lot of the land when there are enterprising residents ready to take hold of the matter and push it through So it is probable that Mr Wheeler and his syndicate will receive re-ceive an unfavorable answer from the Chamber OTHER MATTERS During the evening the committee com-mittee appointed to confer with the directors of the D A M Society with reference to inducing people to come here during Fair week Indulgedin an informal talk in reference to the matter under their direction Mr Bennett called attention to the fact that 200 members of the Order of the Mystic Shrine with their families would be here from Denver on the morning of the 7th of OctoLer and asked if something should not be done for their entertainment The matter was discussed for sometime some-time but without any decision being arrived at the committee adjourned to the City Hall to meet the D A M directors |
