| Show PROVO POINTS The new HERALD catches on No complaints about the weather We have no use for a sprinkling cart Some fear a frost after the storm which may injure the fruit crop The grangers are pleased to see the snow on the mountain tops Samuel Liddiard the boss mason of Provo is building an addition t his residence resi-dence in the Third ward war A half dozzd bricklayers are at work on the walls of a handscmo residence for John Devey in the Fourth ward The Relief society of the Fourth ward give a dinner and dance in the ward house next Tuesday afternoon The invitation cards to the first annual reception and ball of the chamber of commerce com-merce indicate a giltedged affair The opera house will be dec rat d and everybody expects the grandest social event of the season will take place next Wednesday evening There is a fair prospect for the sidewalk from the railroad and depot to Center street to be paved in the near future with asphalt from the Spanish Fork mines The material can be had loaded on the cars at Thistle station at 10 per cubic yard We are not told exactly how many square yards of pavement a cubic yard will make but suppose that depends somewhat on the amount necessary to be most durable As the sun was setting beyond the Oquhrh mountains on Friday the clouds aroke away and the landscape about this city appeared most beautiful The streaks of sunshine and shadows across the Utah lake the green grass of the valley and up the variegated face of the Wasatch mountains moun-tains mist of town to the newfallen snow on the peaks which was partially hidden above the cloudsthe scenery was grand Beyond description The mountains seemed to assume an awful gjaadeur with dark clouds hanging over tao craggy peaks and gloomy chasms which with streaks of uright sunshine made up a variety of scenery nowhere else to be found and which no artist could paint or reproduce on canvas The real estate transactions during the past week have been numerous though but little said about it A couple of gentlemen from Nebraska with the aid of a friend looked over the chances bought some farm hands and city lots and went back for their cmilies Such quiet deals are constantly going on though the real estate agents seem to be doing but very little business There are seemingly two classes of real estate tate agents tho one with properties for ale and the other to buy for their employ nlJ eIa i rc of Ot ers This latter class do not advertise in the papers or let their business be known while they quietly look over the situation and determine the most desirable investments invest-ments for their employers In this way cl shrewd business men can come and select the very best bargains make their purchases pur-chases and leave town before their business is generally known They prefer to buy from the owners rather than pay the extra prices asked by the agents who must realize real-ize a handsome margin or else skirmish for their bread and butter in some other way PROVO March 1618S9 I |
