| Show THE STRAIGHT OF IT United States Consul Kennedy Reports on the Chinese Riot Rot WASHINGTON March ISThe secretary of state has received the report of Frank Kennedy United States consul general at Shanghai on the recent riot at Chin Kiang Ciina I appears that on February 5 the consul general received from Consul Jones at Chin Kiang telegraphic news of th3 riot and the threatened attack on the consulate con-sulate and a request for protection As there was no American manofwar im I mediatedly available the British consul I general opened communication with and an English manofwar was started from Shanghai on February 6 for Chin Kiang On the day the British consulate and four other houses at Chin Kiang were burned and the office of the American consul con-sul gutted and looted by a mob of about 600 Mr Jones and family escaped injury These facts were communicated to every minister at Pekin The consul general at Shanghai also reported that there was a ate rumor that more buildings had been destroyed Among them were the residences resi-dences of some American millionaries |
