Show Storase of Water WASHINGTON May 14The Senate at he last session appointed a committee to nvestigate the question of irrigation and he reclamation of arid lands The com ittee will commence its work on tho 1st pf August next starting from St Paul Minnesota It expects to spend three reeks in the field and will visit northern akota Montana Idaho as far as Snake ver basin Utah Nevada California Art ona southwestern Texas along the valley if the Rio Grande from El Paso to Ian Antonio thence by Fort Worth to anta Fe and Colorado by railroad across the akedL plains the panhandle region and art of southern New Mexico through that erritory to southwest Kansas Colorado nd Wyoming The committee will be ac ompanied by the director of the geological urvey Richard J Miuton who prepared or the department of agriculture a report n irrigation in the United States pub shed by tbo United States Senate in 1887 ccompanies the special committee asa as-a expert having been appointed rigation engineer in the United States eographical survey The United States eographical survey will have six engineer ng parties in the field some time before the ommittee starts Thejpublicadomain west if the 100th meridian will be divided finally nto about fifteen hydrological districts as he topography of the region best indicates roper storage basins and the six districts ow formed which embrace the region be ween the 100th meridian west longitude nd the Rocky Mountains in Montana laho Utah Nevada and all the basin see ion of the Sierras and California west icreof and in New Mexico and Arizona |
