Show He Who Signs The Checks, Calls The Shots To be completely honest about the entire thing. I'm absolutely fed up with professional athletes. JUST WHO these guys think they are? Right now the National Football League Players Association Asso-ciation is saying they are above taking drug tests following their games. Fine. I say get rid of the ones that don't want to take the tests. The owners owe them nothing. The owners pay the bills and sign the checks and if one guy doesn't want to do what the owner says then give him his pink slip. I CAN see me telling my boss, Dean Stahle. that I won't do something he asks of me for some ridiculous reason. Let's use the "it's dehumanizing" dehumaniz-ing" one. Something tells me I'd be looking for a new job the next day. I have to believe that there are enough players in the league who will take the test to keep the league going. Then those who won't take the test could be replaced by other players. There are enough good players in Canada and elsewhere to fill the rosters. PLAYERS SHOULD take a good look at themselves them-selves and put someone other than themselves at the top of their list. These guys are the heroes for the youth of this country and yet all the youth read about is how the players want more money and about the drug problem in the league. Olympic athletes have to take drug tests, yet the NFL players feel they are better than that. They won't have to do anything their own little association says they don't have to do. THE BOTTOM line is the players are owned by the clubs who are owned by the owners. If they don't want to do what the owners ask of them they should be fired. The players are trying to tell the owners and the league officials just how to run the league. And they have no right to tell them this if the players don't like the way things are run, then they can all leave. I MEAN these guys start right from the beginning. begin-ning. Right out of college they want more money than a guy who's been playing in the league for six years. Can you see a college graduate, and most football players don't fit into this category, tell the new boss he wants a half-million or he'll go look for a job in Canada? What happened to experience? If I'm a running back in the league who has proven myself and I make $200,000 a year and some fresh guy out of college says he wants half a million or he'll not play I'm going to get upset. Let these so called college graduates go find another job, one that will pay them the amount they seek. The owners are to blame for the high salaries, and they should get their acts together. TAKE A football player freshout of Football U, still 100 hours aways from graduation, drafted into the NFL. He tells the new team he wants a half-a-million. The team says no way, they'll give him $40,000 a year. Something tells me this guy, who can't spell his name, and if left alone, will take the offer with a smile. After all, for the past four years in college he's been living on $200 a month. This would be an ideal situation, but it will never happen because the agents want the money and the owners know if they don't pay some other team owner will. PLAYERS SHOULD take it upon themselves to clean up their image. Owners should be firm in their dealings with the players. Owners should realize that fans will pay to see 11 guys suit up in football uniforms. Fans don't care who the 1 1 guys are. If the prima donnas don't want to take the drug tests then get 1 1 more guys. The average fan doesn't care anyway. OWNERS SHOULD stand up for their rights, they are the boss and pay the checks. If a guy steps out of line and doesn't do what he is told then fire him. Stop letting the athletes dictate to the owners and the public. It's time for them to realize they aren't as great as they think they are. |
