Show THE UTAH CENTRAL The First Step Toward Los Angeles An-geles Taken Yesterday THE STOCKHOLDERS STAND PAT The Branch t the Castle Valley Coal Fields Future Plans of the Koad Their Importance Im-portance to Salt Lake The Utah Central stockholders meeting was held yesterday morning to consider the matters of amending the articles of incorporation in-corporation of the road so as to permit of the extension of the main line from tho present terminus at Milford to a point known as Summit near whore the old overland wagon road ciosses the Nevada lino on the western border of Iron county also to build a branch line running from or near Juab station to the Castle valley coal lands m Emery county Superintendent Sharp was callad to the chair and he stated briefly the objects of the meeting and what the directors of the road were aiming at in taking this step The matter of the proposed branch line to Castle valley was first taken up and discussed dis-cussed Superintendent Sharp was of the opinion that it would be cheaper to build to these fields than to the Pleasant valley coal mines and tho cost of operating would also be much less on account of the easy grades I was decided however not to withdraw the charter of the road from the Spanish Fork canyon route I was suggested sug-gested that the line might be run from Nephi up Salt Creek canyon and through Sanpeto county to Castle valley but serious objections wero found to this plan and so it was abolished The question of the extension of the main road to the Nevada line was also thoroughly discussed and a vote was finally taken upon a resolution containing the above mentioned amendments and the entire number of entre shares represented went in favor of the change About 33000 shares or over two thirds of the entire capital stock was voted THE NEXT QUESTION to be voted upon by the stsckholders of the Utah Central is the proposed consolidation of that road with the Utah Northern and Oregon Short Line The scheme is a grand one and contemplates the broadening of the gauge of the Utah Northern and the shortening of that line the equipment of the Utah Central with new steel rails and its extension to Los Angeles or some other point in Southern California OThis consolidation is it is understood contingent only upon the report of Chief Engineer Cameron to the directors of the Union Pacific and there is every reason to believe that this report will be favorable The terms have of course not yet been decided upon but the impression is that three shares of Utah Central stock will go for two shares of stock in the new corpora tion ton THE CHIEF ADVANTAGES of this change will be in the removal of the headquarters of the Union Pacific road to Salt Lako city which is said upon good authority to ho sure to follow The idea that passengers will bo transferred from the Utah Northern to tho Utah Central at Ogden when tho former road is made standard gage i preposterous In fact there i every reason to believe that all the big roads will have their termini in this city before the end of another year |
