Show POLITICAL CLUBS The recommendation of the municipal central co committee the Peoples party that political clubs be organized in the several sev-eral school districts is both wise and timely As has boforo been pointed out in i these columnsthero has been lack of that organization In the Peoples party which i is necessary to the development and utilization I utili-zation of the fall strength of the party There has nevej until the late election been cast what could be regarded as a high percentage of the Peoples votes Belief in overwhelming numbers caused many to neglect their duty to the party and others did not go to the polls because of a feeling of political indifference which invariably comes when life is not injected into the campaigns The time has arrived when parties must work for what they get They cannot be lethargic and triumphant at the same time Victories will have to be won as they will not come as a matter of course and to win victories voters must be inspired in-spired with the necessity of each man performing per-forming his whole duty to himself and to his party THE HEKALD notwithstanding the boasts and expectations of the opposition believes t1t the People are still in tho majority in tlifs city and that they will elect their ticket next February if they will only take the trouble to go to the polls and vote like good citizens The way to induce them to take that trouble is to interest them politically to make them see the danger which threatens and to inspire in them earnest ne1S and determination One of the very best means to be employed is that proposed by the central committee in the formation of clubs Enlist all in the clubs and then i see that the suborganizations are kept alive and active There is now a good platform 4o stand upon There is something some-thing to talk to something to advocate There are principles to promulgate and there are aims and objects before tho party which are clearly defined and plainly stated There are good and sufficient reasons unmistakably un-mistakably set out why the People should be retained in power And now the thing to do is to keep that platform with its promises and propositions before the public pub-lic using it uot only I to encourage the present members of the party but gather to its support the voters of other organizations organiza-tions who are inclined to good and honest government to wise safe and conservative I rule ruleProceed Proceed with the organization of club and this done then keep the clubs at work When the polls shall open next year we will also see the effect of active political labor performed in season |
