Show The Big Bend Failure I BUFFALO Sept 26Dr Pierce president I presi-dent of the Big Bend Tunnel and Mining company in a circular to the stockholders announcing the failure of the comyany says Since the issue of Bulletin No 11 on September 29188S there has been no I Settember material change in the prospects developed I by our mining operations last year at Big Bend Ths vast quantity of boulders uncovered I un-covered completely handicapped our operations opera-tions and made them so expensive us to I prevent a realization of profit In fact in view of the adverse developments of last seasons work and the further exeri seaons cxer enc of this season it is doubtful if our mines ever can be worked at profit Certainly not at present prices of labor nor unless some more economical eco-nomical method may hereafter be Invented for handling the vast quantity of boulders which exist in the river bed Our operations opera-tions have demonstrated the fact that there is a vast quantity of gold washed but in the face of the obstacles mentioned it seems impossible to extract it at a profit The total output from our mines last season was S17832 This did not pay the cost of actual mining operations Everything has been done t operate cheaply and effcc lively and everything else likely to facilitate tate the work that experience can suggest Great as is our disappointment at this unfavorable termination of our great undertaking we at least havo the satisfaction satisfac-tion of knowing that wo were not more at fault in our judgment with these mines than was most of the experienced mining experts of the Pacific Coast and that wo have been defeated by no fault in the i management but by the existence of unfavorable I un-favorable conditions which could not possibly pos-sibly have been forseen or supposed to exist and which were only disclosed when the mines fully opened up by our excavations ex-cavations in the bed of tho river W r 1 |
