Brown, marker chairman chair-man and June S. Swaner, vice president. The Helen Mar Miller Camp Captain Irene B. Olsen had the pioneer organ in the Charles Penrose cabin repaired and tuned. This organ came across the plains in a covered wagon in 1847. The first organ to cross the plains, owned by Eva Hess Giles, a sister to Bishop John W. Hess and given to the Penrose cabin. Organist Weston Harris, tuned and repaired the old organ and then played six tunes, written by Charles Penrose. Following are the songs "Beautiful Zion For Me," "Awake Ye Defenders of Zion," "0 Ye Mountains High," "To Our Father, We Come Unto Thee," "Blow Gently Ye Wild Winds," and "School Thy Feelings." |
