Show TELEGRAPHIC NEWS I Thorough Geological Survey I WASUINGTON July 15Maj > r Powell I Director of the Geological Survey has j submitted to the Secretary of the j Interior a plan of operations for the I geological survey for the present fiscal I jear He proposes to continue the surveys for the topography of the I United States now in progress In an interview Powell said The geologic work will be carried on as heretofore in various parts of the country in Nev I England along the Atlantic coast through the Appalachian Mountain system in the lower Mississippi region I along the southern and western shores of Lake Superior in the rich mountain j region in what promises to be the important im-portant coal petroleum and natural gas i t field in the near future m I t Montana in the California gold belt 1 and in half a dozen other regions of in tere t from a scientific and economic standj oint In the portion of the Rocky Moon an region lying within Colorado he work is among the most important 01 the institution and during the last summer the Denver coal fields was en astively investigated and a report I setting forth the extent and value oft of-t she coal will be prepared during the ummer In the geyser region of Yellowstone Yel-lowstone Park the studies already began be-gan will be continued during the pres sent season Mr Brecker has finishf d his investigation of quicksilver deposits of the slope He has not only made a thorough local study but has taken up the whole subject ot quicksilver deposits de-posits of the globe and visited those of the greatest importance including the mines of New Almaden Spain His report re-port upon this subject is about to go to press but meantime his assistants have taken up the investigation of auriferous deposits of the gold belt skirting the I western base of the Sierras in California Califor-nia |
