Show FROM THE NORTH COUNTRY The Quarterly ConferenceThings Theatrical and Otherwise To the Editor of THE HERALD The Quarterly Conference of the Box Elder Stake of Zion was held herein here-in our Tabernacle on Saturday and Sunday last and was attended by large and attentive audiencps Apostle John W Taylor was present and delivered three powerful discourses during the conference which were full of inspiration instruction and reproof upon the duties of the Latterday Saints and were highly appreciated by all who were present And while the stormy elements of persecution were raging and dashing against Zions ship from without the peaceable things of the kingdom were enjoyed within at our last conference On Saturday evening last a large audience greeted THE B D < b L CLUB which interpreted is Brigham Dramatic and Lyric Club at the Theatre on their third appearance this season The piece presented was entitled en-titled The Life of an Actress and was I I put on the stage in good style both as to costumes dialogue and acting act-ing which was the natural result of studv and sufficient rehearsal Mr E H Pierce as Gnmalditheold actor was immense both id acting and make up and used his bi ken Italian dialect with an ease that wew largely on the imagination of his audience Sirs E H Pierce performed the pare of Violet for the first time and from the manner in which she personated that difficult and emotional part one would easily have I been led to suppose that her performance perform-ance on Saturday night was her hundredth hun-dredth appearance in that character Mr B F Howells made his debut herewith here-with the club as Captain Maltravers and it must be said that he performed I his part like an actor with considerable experience Mr B H Jones also made his first appearance herein here-in the part of Arthur Shafton and was well up in his lines and business Miss Etta Madson also deserves especial mention for her I dignified and natural rendition of the part of Julia la short all the members mem-bers did well and the audience were well entertained as they man le ted by their frequent applause The ply was a success financially as well as artistically artistic-ally The proceeds of our Home Drama Dram-a ic Clubs last three performances amount to over 375 One week from next Saturday the club will present the sensational play entitled Darvil the Demon or Earnest Maltravers On Saturday evening next our juvenile juven-ile dramatic tro ipe announce that they will play Lady Audleys Secret Yesterday atternoon THREE DEPUTY MARSHALS sped through our city like meteors go jug i orthward After lingering in our northern suburbs a short time they I drifted westward And still the world i goes on I lhe citizens of Brigham City are notified noti-fied by hand bills that they are to be treated daily to gospel sermons in our courthouse at 3 o clock pm by the Rev S E Wishard DD So you see we are not entirely without with-out entertainment as well as persecution I persecu-tion J B I BRIGHAM CITY February 1st 1887 |
