Show The tiliattauooga Fire CHATTANOOGA Tenn August 10 The loss by last nights fire was 400 000 A well fell on four men after midnight two of whom are still under the debris J B McMillan a prom inent itizsn was lest in the hre but the names of the other parties are un kn wn Two men were gotten out probably fatally hurt The loss of life has been great In the excitement of the conflagration hundreds of citz ns rushed into the buildings and endeavored to save the threatened goods Itseems seems that it was criminal carelessness in erectirg the four story structures because they col lapsed solely from heat One building fell in while fifty persons were inside The following remains recovered have been identified James P McMillen i Henry Welch James Smith cooed Edward Lowe another colored man has been recovered but the remains are not identified Two more bodies have been discovered beneath the ruins but they cannot be reached be fore night it is believed D Krueger was also bured beneath the ruins and six or seven others The total loss of lite is estimated at ten and four were badly wounded McMillen was a prom inent citizen Ed Lowe was a building coo tractor |
