Show Louisiana Voudooisra NEW ORLEANS May 30A case in the second recorders court establishes the fact hat Voudooism and its disgusting rites still have a foothold in Louisiana For some time there have been promiscu gatherings of whites and blacks in a house on St Anthony street Although in a retired locality the assemblages became so noisy that they disturbed the neighbors At last the place became a nuisance and the police were informed The result was hat the police made a descent on the place swhile the orgies were in full swing A strange disgusting bight met their eyes In a circle formed by eight white and six nero ne-ro women and seven negro men were a halfbreed Indian and a negro named Alexander who dressed in silken tichts were performing a typical Voudoo dance Muttering a weird incantation the refrain of winch was taken up by the men and women surround ins him a negro man was lying on the floor only partly clad while the women standing around had also laid aside much of their ordinary wearing apparel When robed for the street it was found that early all the white women were well dressed and apparently respectable They erohorrified to learn that they were toe > to-e taken to the police station When they cached there they volunteered an expla nation of their presence iu such an assembly assem-bly and in such scant attire Alex nader they said was a Voudoo doctor He had made many wonderful cures and they had full confidence in his power to relieve their sufferings bv his incantations in-cantations They stoutly insisted that they had experienced benefit from his treat enent and were confident that he would ef ect a thorough cure The women were evidently sincere in heir statements They were of all ages ranging from sixteen to fifty and several of them were decidedly handsome |
