Show Report on Chinese Teas WASHINGTON Aug 9In view of the recent re-cent revelations concerning tea transporta tions into the United States a report by J H Wingate consul at Foe Chow to the state department of the features of the Foo Chow tea season for ISIS will be interesting interest-ing He says the offerings were placed on the market May 21 and although the higher grade were superior to those of j557 the prices were considered too high and only positive orders were filled The market closed March 15 1SS9 with a large stock on hand Of the tea sent to the United States 24229861 pounds were Oolong and Pouchong 1220 037 pounds Congon and Sanchong 1558 pounds Orange Pekoe 11130 pounds Flowery Flow-ery Pekoe The consul says Reckless buying on the part of some foreign merchants mer-chants early in the season enabled Chinese merchants to realize extreme profits Later profits to Chinese even were not large and they combined to prevent the tea being brought in from the country Foreign dealers cannot so combine The reckless buying continued until brought disrepute upon some and few firms can call the season sea-son a profitable one yet all say the demand for firstclass Fee Chow teas must continue to exist no other being able to supply their place |
