Show THE SECOND REGATTA The Salt Lake Cub Carries the Day by Storm GARFIELDS BADLY DEFEATED The Attendance was Small but the Arrange met were Perfect and Good Sport was the Order of the Day There was only a fairly large crowd at Lake Park yesterday afternoon t witness the second regatta of the season by the local boat clubs The fact that there was not a larger crowd present was due entirely en-tirely to the fact that the event was very meagerly advertised TiE ARRANGEMENTS for the races were perfect The flags at starting and turning points were plainly visible from the pier th starter was stationed sta-tioned in a boat at one end of the starting line and there was a boat full of judges at judgs the turning point so that there was no chance for complaint on the part of anyone TUB FIRST RACE was a single scull contest between Ballou of the Salt Lakes and Glasmann Balou e Garfields The boys got a god even start but before many lengths had been rowed Glasmann caught a crab and came to a standstill throwing up the race Ballo rowed over the course making it in i 842 and was declared the winner Glasmaui olaimed that ho run aground but some of the Salt Lake boys asserted that he was afraid of being beaten and took the frt excuse to back out THE DOUBLES The next race was a double scull between be-tween Bailey and Stafford of the Garneld and Ballou and Coryell of the Salt Lakers The Salt Lakes took took the lead from the start and held it to the end coming in i several seconds ahead of the Garflelds TimeS 6 f THE LIGHTWEIGHTS Next came the race between the famous kids of the Salt Lake club and the light four of the Garfields The Salt Lake boy were a usual invincible They made a big spurt on the start and then held their own throughout the race coming in nine seconds ahead TimeT1 TiE IIEAVV FOURS The race between the heavy fours of the respective clubs showed some pretty good work on the part of the Salt Lakes and some good rowing and poor steering on the part of the Garfields The SaltLakes made it in 659 with the Garfields four or five lengths in the rear It was a pretty regatta and it is t be regretted re-gretted that more of the public were not present to witness it OfK BOYS AlIUOAn A dispatch was received last night from Osborn and Webber of the Garfield club who are abroad working for amateur honors announcing that they won the national na-tional championship on Lake Calumet at Pullman Illinois yesterday They row today for the championship of the Mississippi win Missis-sippi it valley and the chances are theyl |
