Show Evolution Must Go Perhaps CIIATTANOOOA May 22The evolution question came up again to day in the discussion cussion of a resolution to disapprove the acton of the South Carolina synod and condemning as unwise irregular and unconstitutional constitutional the action of the Charleston resbytory in forbidding the public contending con-tending against the decision of the Baltimore Balti-more assembly in the Woodrow evolution case After several heated speeches the resolution disapproving the action of the South Carolina synod was adopted by a vote of 113 to 31 Thus the doctrine of evolution was again snowed under In a particularly vigorous speech sustaining the action of the Charleston Presbyterians Dr Girardean said they had a right as guardians of the church to prohibit the cir ulation of such a false doctrine The matter comes down to the whole question whether we as a church are to consider the Scriptures as silent or not in regard to the manner of creation The Baltimore assembly sembly said not the Charleston assembly said not the Charleston Presbytery said not and I hope this general assembly would do the same |
