Show NEWS FE03I THE SOUTH A Rumor that the Horn Silver will Soon Resume The court presided over by J S Boreman and known as the Court of the Second Judicial District wound up its affairs as far as possible and adjourned ad-journed for the term this evening One of its closing acts was the sentencing of a young man named Samuel Haycock to imprisonment in the Penitentiary for one year ana six months and the payment ot the costs of court for the crime of perjury The offense of young I Haycock was somewhat peculiar that I Is in regard to its manner of committal com-mittal Some time ago a fellow named James Marshall was arrested in Salt i Lake on a warrant from Boremanrs court charging the crime of extortion Marshall was brought here and placed I in the county jail his bonds being fixed I at a nominal sum Notwithstanding I I the small amount of bQnds required i Marshall found it literally 1 impossible to obtain them Attorney 0 W Zane bin b-in so rigid in his requirements in the matter of properly qualification that none of tho defendants friends Could come up to the standard Young Haycock however i it serins Ventured Ven-tured a little too far and testified to the ownership of more property than he actually pqssessed Haycockwas rejected as a bondsman but almost immediately uppnhis leaving leav-ing the court room was arjestedj taken before a United States Commissioner and bound over next morning jjrasjin dieted iwo days after trfcrt l 3 4con slated and today scntiip to Ahe Pen In the interim Marshall wag jtried on his own indictment and acquitted The unlawful cohab cases of Thomas Schofleld M L Shepherd I William Robinson and W G Bickley have also been continued from the fact that in all these cases the principal and alleged niQ t material witnesses could not be produced in court Court uow being over public feeling and business in the south at least will once more assume its wonted coursepf peace and quietude On dit It is rumored with seemingly good foundation that the Rigantean mine known as the Horn Silver will next month once more assume its old time position as the biggest ore producing produc-ing niinem Utah and that the smelters atFrancklyn will in consequence soon assume their oldtime bustle and activity ac-tivity Although the strictest secrecy is maintained by the Horn Silver management man-agement yet it seems to be pretty well understood in Frisco that in the mine in question there is now thousands of tons of ore in sight That the rumors I may prove correct in their every particular par-ticular is the wish of S It nEAV Dec 29th 18S5 |
