Dancing I and vocal and instrumental music punctuated with refreshments furnished fur-nished an eveniugl enjoyment which will be remembered by all present as among the pleasantest of the impromptu im-promptu holiday pastimes THE MISSES TEA DEL began the new year by inviting a few friends to spend Friday evening in the parlors of their pleasant home on South Temp Street Music and dancing were the deviations and the affair though without pretensions preten-sions will take a prominent place among the hospitalities so characteristic of these young ladies The Tenth Ward The holiday season was kept up for 1SS5G as has been the custom for many years past in this wardreceiving gifts on Christmas morning in the meetinghouse meeting-house for the needy in the ward Bishop Spiers expressed himself more than gratified at the liberality and thoughtfulness thought-fulness of his people on that day and many hearts swelled with love and gratitude before the pvening sun set for kind remembrances of the Tenth warders ward-ers for the helpless and unfortunate On New Years day the ward reunion or as it is termed the Old Folks Party caused the hall to be crowded with members of the ward only when the number of kindly wishes of Happy New Year to you pased around would count up into the thousands A jolly time was had one perhaps some few of the participants will not see again on this mnmlane sphere These occasions are redletter days and should not be forgotten by those who have a part in making up the history of our aged settlers The Eighteenth IVanl Parties Next Friday evening the first of the series of five parties to be given at the Eighteenth Ward School House takes place The gentlemen managing the affair have done everything that could be done by way of preparation for the entertainment of those they have invited In order that the floor may not be crowded and that > no objectionable objec-tionable characters may be admitted only a limited number of invitations have oeen issued The programme has been prepared with care and the variety of dances is such that all are bound to be suited A pleasant and sociable time is promised to thiho attend Seeing the Old Year Out There were numerous parties formed for bidding farewell to 1885 and ushering usher-ing in 186 but the most notable was probably that of a party of Seventh I Warders headed by the wellknown Bailey Son which marched around the block on which Bishop Thorne resides and ended UP on his front porch at the hour of midnight Fiddles horns drums masked faces arjd grotesque dresses were all insufficient to quench the bishops hospitality ana he threw open his doors and made merry with the party of revellers till the cock crew It was in all respects a ularious and memorable occasion At Park City The Masonic ball at Park City on Friday evening was a great social success suc-cess largely attended by the elite of the Park and a great many well known Salt Lakers The Pleasant Hafts The above well known social organization organiza-tion will give ahop in the Walker Opera House on the 7th iust It will no doubt beas pleasant an affair as the many given in the past |
