Show LOST IN THE SNOW An Old Man Named Ellsworth Missing in Big Cottonwood Considerable excitement was created yesterday morning by the rumor of the loss of a man named Thomas Ellsworth in the deep snow in Big Cottonwood H H Bagley of that canyon came to the city yesterday and related a story which tells a tale of hardship endured by men working in that part of the mountains From him it was learned that some eight or nine teams were doing hauling at Mill D Big Cottonwood Cotton-wood and when tie recent heavy snowfall snow-fall began their stock of provisions had I become nearly exhausted To obtain afresh I a-fresh supply eight men started to Argenta last Wednesday with teams I I Ellsworth who is somewhat aged was told to follow after on snowshoes snow-shoes bringing with him food for the party With great diffic lty the party reached Argenta the snow beingso deep and only got to their destination des-tination by leaving their wagons and following down the bed of the creek The old man Ellsworth did not reach them that night and up to the time Mr I Baglev left nothing had been heard of him It was feared that he was caught in a snowslide which came down a short distance Deiow tao mui at aoout a oclock that afternoon As the missing man was noted for his promptness it is an almost settled fact that he started out to follow the party and if i he did he has certainly perished A number of hardy canyon men organized themselves them-selves into a search party yesterday and started out to hunt for Mr Ells worth The old gentleman has lived in Big Ccttonwood for about fifteen years and was well known by the lumber men and miners of that region |
