Show HOW WILLARD CITY WAGS Interesting Items from a Rustic Correspondent To the Editor of THE HERALD We have had a great deal pf stormy weather here during the present month on account of which the people who are with scarcely an exception farmer have had very little to do7 except to read the news on the different topics of the day and discuss the sime THE HERALD especially is eagerly looked for and the subscribers for the Daily here are beset on all sides by the inquires for the latest news Through some mismanagement mis-management the papers do notalways arrive punctually and in some instances in-stances not at all one of which was last Saturdays Daily the 13th inst which was eagerly looked for as it was supposed it would have an account of the breaking up of the Legislature it i has failed to appear at all There has been a great deal of sickness sick-ness here during the winter and a nuns her of deaths children with the exception ex-ception of Jasper Nebeker a young man 21 years of age who died on Sunday Sun-day the 7th inst Hit > death cast a gloom over the entire community as be was universally esteemed for his many good qualities and virtues Notwithstanding Notwith-standing the inclemency of the weather weath-er one of the largest if not the largest funeral processionsever seen in Willard followed his remains to their last resting rest-ing place In his death we realize more fully the truth of the old adage In the I midst of life we are indeath as it wa i generally thought that he possessed a strong constitution and was one of the healthiest boys of the town He will no doubt be remembered by the base ball Soys of Salt Lake as he visited them a number of times last season in connection with the Ogden players The enterprises of Willard have been limited in the past there having becir no business here until quite recently only what was carried on by the Coop store it having to deal in all kinds of grain produce fruit etc or the people peo-ple be compelled to go to either Brigham Brig-ham or Ogden to dispo e of their products pro-ducts borne of the citizens are now agitating the propriety of organizing a Produceend Commission Co in order that their fruit and produce may b shipped direct fromhere realizing that the policy they have been pursuing will eventually prove suicidal to the community com-munity especially considering the superior su-perior advantages we possess if only improved We are situated in close proximity to lwo railroads at nearly the northern extremity of thefruitpro Jucinz reeion At a meeting called by some of the citizens on Monday night last the subject was fully discussed dis-cussed and a committee was appointed to make an estimate of the capital needed need-ed also to consider the best method for organizing All acrced that this is a step in the right direction as the soil here is very productive and the best quality of fruits vegetables etc can be easily produced here There are also prospects for the people peo-ple here to have better facilities for improving im-proving tfieir homes and buildings Robert Snodgrass Esq had ti brickyard brick-yard here late last fall He only burned burn-ed one kiln for an experiment but they have proven to beso superior an article by those who have tested them that he i is making arrangements to go extensively exten-sively into the business as soon as spring opens Messrs G Nicholas andOns Wells two young men are also busy erecting a large boat for the purpose of supplying MrSnodgrasswith fuel alsO to haul posts and wood for general use from the Promontory Two more of our enterprising young men Messrs R Dock and Don C Harding have recently I cently gone into the poultry business they having bought in the neighoor hood of eight hundred orone thousand chickens having them divided in coops about fifty in < each they hare a man employed constantly tocare for them and they seem confident that it will be Ipaying affair RUSTIC WILLABD March 1918SO |
