Show 7 4 TDCBER TALK J j ot Iy Rules and Regulations of the Interior Department NOMINATIONS NOT ACTED ON r i The rltnterCnttlncBnlei and Jlejju litlon Are to Take KffcMjt September lit 1830 C f j v I TlmboiCnttlns Rule WASBDGTON Augusts The Interior Department today promulgated the I rules and gulaUonl governing the reo moral of timber from government lands They are prescribed by virtue ot the act of June fiLl 1878 entitled an aot authorizing the citizens of Colorado Nevada anil the Territories to felT and remove the timber on nublicdorran for mining and domestio purposes The act applies only to the Btatea of Colorado Colo-rado Nevada Utah Wyoming Dakota Da-kota Idaho and Montana and other mineral districts of the United States not specifically provided for The land from which tbe timber is felled or rer mbvecl under tbeprovirfons ol the act must be known to be strictly ofji natn era character and that it is not subject to entry under the existing laws of tbe United States except for miLeral entry No person not a citizen or a fcmajuerea dens of State Territory or other miner district provided for in said act is permitted to Jell or remove timber from the mineral I lands therein and no person firm or i coruorationJelllng or removing limber under this act shall sell or dispose of the same or lamberjuanufacturcOthttre fro l tany other than citizens and smhfi Ofresidentsft the State or Territory Terri-tory where much Timber is cut nor for an other purpose then for the legitimate use of said purchaser for The purposes mentioned m said act Any owner flif manager of said mill or other person felling fell-ing or removing timber undertheprq viijfons of thii act fchall keep a record rec-ord of Vail the timber so cct or niadef rom eucif timber without ttking from the purchaser a written agree nicn that sameushall not betisett except for buildlnz agricultural and mining ofother domestic purposes within the State or Territorandilvery such purch1er shall farthetbe re quimlttojilejwiih said owner a certifi caiehndtrpath tttifer purchased sucn timber or lumber exclusively for his own use and for the purposes aforesaid afore-said The tImber felled or removed shall be strictlylimitedtobuiIdingagrultHral mining and otherdomestic purposes within the StateoreTerrItory where it grew All cuttings of such timber for use outside of the State or Territory where the same is cut and all removals remov-als thereof outside of the Statcor Territory Ter-ritory wlf ere it is cut are forbidden > Noperson will permitted to fell or remove any growing trees of any kind whatsoever less than eight inches in diameter Persons telling or moving Umber from the publiC mincraHaads of the Utiired States must utilize all of each tree cut or can be profitably used and niust cut and remove the tops and brush pr dispose of the same in such manner as to prevent the spreAdof forest fires The act under which these rules and regulations were prescribed provides follows Section Sec-tion III Any person or persons who shall violate any provisions of this actor act-or any rules and regulations in pursuance pursu-ance thereof made by the Secretary of the Interior shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor and upon conviction shall be fined any sum not exceeding 5500 and to which > may be added imprisonment im-prisonment for any time not ex ceedingsix months These rules andreg illations shall take effect September 1st 18S3 All entry rules and rcguHx tionsjheretoforei prescribed under said act inconsistent therewith are now revoked |
