Show The marginal weather last Saturday had little effect on Davis County Men's Association's Associa-tion's opening tournament. Local golfers turned out in large numbers (over 100) to participate. THE TOURNAMENT was a gross and net event, with four different handicap flights. Though the weather was cool and wet, the scores were low for this time of year. Championship flight was led by Brad Stone, shooting a one over par 73. Alan Cornwall Corn-wall and Doug Wood tied for second at 75. Dan Miller finished third. Net winners were Mac Morrell at 63; Blair Teeples 66 and Lester Perry Jr. 69. "A" FLIGHT was won bv Gary Chadwick, who is also the men's president. Gary shot an 80. Bud Hyden and Joel Berger shot 84's to win second place. Rod Elliott and Art Traquair shot 70 to win net honors for "A" flight. Dean Thurgood and Bud Tice placed second by shooting 71. Wayne Austin won low gross in "B" flight with an 80. A couple of Bountiful boys placed second - Ivor Irving and Bob Harker shot 83's along with Clark Sessions. On the net side Gary Hitt and Clark Mower placed first at 64. Val Randall a perennial winner finished tied with Dee Robins at 68. "C" FLIGHT low gross winner was Dee Durrani shooting 89. Tom Lee and Terry Buttars were second at 91. Bob Lawson was third at 94. Net prizes went to Jess Barnes and Lamar Green at 67. Harry Ragland shot 69 to place third. Congratulations to all these winners. LEE WORTHINGTON of Salt Lake City made the first hole-in-one of the Bicentennial Bicenten-nial year at Bountiful Golf Course. While playing the 14th hole at Bountiful, Mr. Worthington hit his tee shot into the hole. The 14th at Bountiful is a 177 yards, par 3. Jay Hammond witnessed the shot. The U of U and Weber State golf teams returned last week from the far western intercollegiate inter-collegiate golf tournament in Santa Cruz. Playing in a field comprised of over twenty teams, including three ranked in the top ten nationally, na-tionally, the two Utah colleges found the competition and golf course a little rough. THE WILDCATS of Ogden managed to finish in the top 15, while the U of U just missed the 36 hole cut and had to pack their bags for home a day early. The next tournament for both teams will be the BYU sponsored Cougar Classic. April 23 and 24 in Provo. |
